Building Confidence and Independence
Jamie Hamilton, a lifelong wheelchair user, has for many years taught wheelchair skills to individuals and for charities such as Whizz-Kidz and ASBAH (now named SHINE). Jamie believes that being proficient and confident in your wheelchair allows you to access more places and builds your self-esteem.
Our training sessions are tailored to individual needs. We cover everything from basic manoeuvring to advanced techniques for navigating obstacles, uneven terrain, and public spaces. We focus on practical skills that empower users to feel more in control, whether at home, work, or out in the community.
Sessions are delivered by an experienced professional who provides practical guidance and support to ensure each participant gains the skills needed to move safely and independently.
Training is open to permanent and part-time wheelchair users and can be tailored to meet your needs, from basic to very advanced skills. The course is held over one day and is designed to be intensive, so that you leave feeling equipped with all the skills you need to live more independently and access more places. Alternatively, if you want to take your time learning the wheelchair skills crucial for daily living, we have an 8-week course. The content is the same, only delivered at a slower pace.
