Return To work

Struggling to return to work — or worried you won’t be able to stay in it? /Occupational Therapist North East

You’re not alone.

Many people reach a point where work starts to feel overwhelming because of their health — whether that’s fatigue, pain, mental health, or being neurodivergent in a workplace that doesn’t quite fit.

I work with individuals across the North East, including County Durham, and also offer support remotely across the UK.I provide practical occupational therapy support to help you return to work, stay in work, and feel more in control again.

You might be:

• Off work and unsure how or when to go back
• Back at work but struggling to cope
• Feeling exhausted, burnt out, or overwhelmed every day
• Worried you might lose your job
• Not getting the right support or adjustments
• Trying your best, but things still feel too difficult

If any of that sounds familiar, I can help.

My focus is simple — helping you find practical ways to make work manageable again.

That might include:

• Understanding what’s actually making things difficult
• Identifying the right workplace adjustments
• Occupational Therapy for fatigue, pain, or mental health at work
• Creating realistic routines and pacing strategies
• Building confidence to return to work safely
• Helping you communicate your needs with your employer

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach — everything is tailored to you and your situation.

I’m not about generic advice or tick-box assessments.

I bring both professional experience and lived experience of physical disability, mental health challenges, and neurodiversity.

That means I understand what things look like in real life — not just on paper.

My goal is to help you find solutions that genuinely work for you, not just what “should” work.

This service may be right for you if:

• You’re off work due to illness, injury, or burnout
• You’re trying to return to work but unsure how to manage it
• You’re struggling to stay in work due to your health
• You’re neurodivergent and work feels overwhelming
• You feel like you're at breaking point and need practical support

If you’re unsure — that’s okay too. We can talk it through.

What to Expect

We’ll start with a conversation about your situation — what’s working, what isn’t, and what you need.

From there, I can support you with:

• Assessment and practical recommendations
• Strategies you can apply straight away
• Ongoing support if needed

Everything is flexible and tailored — there’s no pressure to commit to anything long-term.

I worked with Gavin, who was struggling at work to manage his health condition, after a few sessions, he felt strong enough to return to work. This is what he had to say "“I felt like I might have to stop working because of my condition. After working with Jamie, I now have the right support in place and feel confident I can continue in my job.”

    What people say...

"Fantastic service, Jamie is an absolute star, highest recommendation possible 10/10

    Gavin

“Jamie was professional, helpful, friendly, and took the time to understand my needs and make recommendation's based on that. I feel much better about being able to continue working based on the changes and equipment he discussed with me”

“Overall, I want to say a huge thank you! The new equipment that Jamie assessed me for has given me independence, freedom, and the opportunity to start a new chapter. It’s enabled me to participate in social activities I was unable to before. The equipment has given me equality and freedom! This equipment has had a substantial impact on both my mental and physical health in the most positive of ways. It has given me hope, optimism and filled me with confidence to mobilise independently with a positive future ahead.”
