Jamie's Sporting Experience

I have always been very competitive and loved sports from a very early age—competing in school competitions from the age of 5. I have always said sports have made me the person I am today and given me the desire to push myself in my life, whether in work, sports, or leisure.  My philosophy is to always do my best in whatever I do, work hard for myself, and give 100% to my team. The physical and mental health results are an added benefit.

When working with clients, I strive to deliver the best possible interventions and treatment to allow them to live and follow their goals, no matter what age, disability or health condition they have.

Sporting career:

  • Played wheelchair basketball since 1983 – represented club and country in the Premier League and European Cup tournaments for some of the biggest clubs in the country at the time; Force, Coventry Crusaders, RGK Panthers.
  • Voted (Most Valuable Player) MVP at the play-offs at the National Wheelchair Basketball, Voted MVP for domestic clubs, made the All-Star Team at a major domestic tournament
  • Competed in many marathons, including the London Wheelchair Marathon, where I came in 6th
  • Competed in 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500m wheelchair track events and was one of the top athletes in the country at the time for my level of classification
  • English and Welsh 100m champion for breaststroke 3 years in a row in the early 80’s
  • Played Sledge Hockey for Great Britain in European Tournaments in the early 90’s
  • Competed in Downhill Mono-skiing in the British Championships, and Scandinavian championships was picked for the 1988 Paralympics but due to injury couldn’t compete.
  • Competed domestically and internationally at Wheelchair Fencing
  • Part of a 98-person team who pulled the heaviest aircraft 100 metres (Dreamliner 787 – 127.6 tonnes) at Heathrow Airport

Other leisure pursuits

My love of sports has allowed me to pursue some other leisure pursuits for fun as well:

Canoeing, Sailing, Scuba diving, Water–skiing, Quad-biking, Curling, Travelling – extensively over the UK, Europe, Egypt, Russia, and the Caribbean and there are still lots of places I want to explore.

Being a wheelchair user I’ve always found ways to do activities that I enjoy and are meaningful to me. Just because I use a wheelchair I don’t let it define who I am, what I can do, or where I should go.

This is why I enjoy being an Occupational Therapist as it allows me to empower others to create a life they want to lead and not be led by their age, disability or health condition.

"Fantastic service, Jamie is an absolute star, highest recommendation possible 10/10

    Gavin

“Jamie was professional, helpful, friendly, and took the time to understand my needs and make recommendation's based on that. I feel much better about being able to continue working based on the changes and equipment he discussed with me”

“Overall, I want to say a huge thank you! The new equipment that Jamie assessed me for has given me independence, freedom, and the opportunity to start a new chapter. It’s enabled me to participate in social activities I was unable to before. The equipment has given me equality and freedom! This equipment has had a substantial impact on both my mental and physical health in the most positive of ways. It has given me hope, optimism and filled me with confidence to mobilise independently with a positive future ahead.”
